Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Jin Chuntai et al in 1989. The type section is at the roadside from Longdanxi to Maliuqiao in eastern part of the Erlangshan Mts. area in western Sichuan Province.

Synonym: (洒水岩组) , Shashuiyan Fm, Sashuiya Fm


Lithology and Thickness

The formation, 177 m thick, is dominated by gray, dark gray lenticular thick-bedded marl, limestone, gray green silty mudstone and thick-bedded bioclastic limestone.


Lithology Pattern: 
Shallow-marine marl


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It overlies the Yanziping Fm, or is in a parallel unconformity with the underlying Baohuoyan Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Maliuqiao Fm.

Regional extent

The formation is steady in lithology, but its thickness varies considerably, merely 37 m thick at Liangluxiang in Tianquan County, northeast of the type section locality.

Fossils

It yields fossils including brachiopods Retziella, Protathyris, Nikiforovaena, Spirinella, Eoschizophoria, etc. and conodont Ozarkodina crispa.
